History on this Shot Gun Lefever Arms Co. was in Syracuse, New York, until Ithaca Gun Co., through a shell corporation, bought them out in early 1916 and moved the machinery and inventory to Ithaca, NY, where they continued to finish up and sell "real" Lefever doubles until about 1919. Then in 1921, Ithaca introduced their lower priced line of Lefever guns, beginning with the Lefever Nitro Special double or Model 1. Dating a Lefever Arms Co. double by the serial number is very iffy. There are guns with serial numbers clear down in the 38000 range that were finished up and sold with an Ithaca address. The H-Grade was introduced about 1898. Uncle Dan left Lefever Arms Co. about 1901 and formed D.M. Lefever & Sons in Syracuse, New York, to make a boxlock and/or triggerplate action double of his design. By late 1902 the company name changed to D.M. Lefever Sons & Co., still in Syracuse. By late 1903 they left New York, and were set up and operating in Defiance, Ohio, still as D.M. Lefever Sons & Co. By mid-1905, the company name was changed to D.M.
