The French military rifle from to 1874 to 1786 was chambered for the 11x59R GRAS round. As developments occurred, the rifle was chambered or other rounds and on becoming obsolete, gunsmiths got together and converted many to12 G (and smaller) cartridges in Europe. Some came out to Australia. As a military rifle, they were not designed for high pressure rounds and the ones turning up should not be fired. I reblued the couple I have and cleaned the action. Again, these guns should not be fired
